I love my job!

As you may know, I started my own creative event décor and rental business, Da Rocha Events, but what you might not know is that I recently became the Wedding and Events Manager at Lanty Slees in Langdale. It’s the most beautiful rustic barn venue with a modern twist and breathtaking views of the valley — the perfect setting for unforgettable celebrations. I’ve always dreamed of helping couples bring their dream day to life, and now I finally get to do that every week.
As I write this, I’m watching 27 Dresses (very fitting, I know). There’s a line in the film — “and that was the moment… that was when I fell in love with weddings.” I tried to think of my own “moment,” but honestly, there isn’t just one. I fall in love with weddings over and over again — every time I see wedding photos on Instagram, every time I help set up for one, and now, every time I plan a wedding at Lanty Slees. It’s not just a job; it’s personal and such an honour to be trusted with these memories.
Recently, I planned one of my first weddings from start to finish, and I’m still glowing from it. I worked closely with the couple for weeks, navigating the usual last-minute stresses and changes, and in the end, delivered their dream day. Watching the bride tear up as she walked into the venue, hearing the laughter during speeches, and seeing the joy on their guests’ faces — it was everything. Midway through the day, the bride pulled me aside, hugged me, and thanked me for making everything perfect and keeping her calm. That moment meant more than anything. I floated for a week afterwards.
Of course, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies — this work takes long hours, resilience, and quick problem-solving. There’s been blood, sweat, and tears along the way... literally! But when everything finally comes together, and you see the joy on people’s faces, it makes it all worthwhile.
This is exactly why I started Da Rocha Events. Yes, I’ve always loved creativity and planning, but more than that — I love making people happy. I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be. Every event, every smile, every thank-you reminds me why I built this business — and why I’m driven to keep growing it into something extraordinary.
